K56flex™ is the new method developed by Hayes Microcomputers and Lucent Technologies for 56 K download from the Internet and online services over regular phone lines. 

Characteristics
K56flex™ products are capable of 56 kbps downloads; however, due to FCC rules which restrict power output of your service provider's modems, current download speeds are limited to 53 kbps. Actual speeds may vary depending the online conditions. A K56flex™-capable analog phone line and K56flex™ capable service provider are necessary for these high speed downloads.
