Windows 3.X Setup Walkthrough
Windows 3.X PPP Setup
Walkthrough
These instructions are proposed to help our customers who are running Microsoft
Windows 3.X to configure a connection with SupraLink Solutions.
In order to get your PPP connection working, you will first need a dial-in
program, Trumpet Winsock.
Trumpet Winsock has facilities for managing a PPP connection as well as the ability to use
dialing scripts for login in and out of your PPP server.
If you already have Trumpet Winsock all you will require is the login script and Winsock INI file.
Use the copy function in your browser. Place cursor at top of page, hold left mouse button down to highlight all text, then choose
Edit - Copy.
Go to your Accessories group and double-click on Notepad, select
Edit - Paste.
Save the file to your local computer. Be sure to change file type to all
files using the same names such as login.cmd and trumpwsk.ini,
respectively.
Place both of these files in your Trumpet directory and refer to step 7 below.
If you haven't already downloaded and installed this program you must do this before we can go onto configuring it.
Before downloading any software, you should create a download directory,
per example C:\Temp, to place the new files in.
This creates a temporary storage space for new software or installation programs.
If you do not know how to create a directory, consult your Windows manual or help files.
Click on the following link to download the latest Trumpet Winsock program files. Now that you have downloaded the file we are ready to configure this program.
1. Download Trumpet Winsock and extract all files to a suitable directory,
per example C:\Internet.
2. You will need to create an icon for your Trumpet Winsock
dialer.
To create an icon go into File Manager.
Go to the directory you extracted the files to and look for tcpman.exe.
Select this file with your mouse.
Place your cursor over the selected file and hold the left mouse button down and drag the file over to your desktop.
Drop the exe file onto the desktop and your icon is now made.
3. In program manager select File - Run. In the dialog box type
sysedit.
4. Add the new directory to your path statement in the autoexec.bat file. This should be the first window after running
sysedit. Type Path=C:\Dos;C:\Windows;C:\Internet.
5. Close and save the changes to your autoexec.bat file.
6. Close Windows and restart your computer for these changes to take effect.
7. Once back in Windows double-click on your Trumpet Winsock icon.
8. Choose File - PPP options.
9. Enter your username and password in the appropriate sections, click
on OK and save the changes.
10. Now choose File - Setup. The only thing that may need to be changed is your slip port. This should be set to your
modem
COM port on your computer.
11. Save the changes and close Trumpet. You will need to restart Trumpet for your changes to take effect.
12. In Trumpet choose Dialer - Login, the first time you execute the login script you will be prompted to enter the phone number you wish to dial. If you make a mistake or wish to change this information simply choose
Dialer - Setup.cmd 514-735-9430.
13. When you see the words Script completed, PPP
enabled, you have successfully made the PPP connection.
14. Minimize Trumpet and start any other Internet application you may wish to use.
